Wema Educationals exists to address the pressing gaps that limit learning, opportunity and wellbeing for young people, families and vulnerable communities in Uganda. Our work is shaped by four key challenges and the strategic focus areas designed to respond to them.
2. Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)
The Problem
Learners—especially refugees, adolescents and youth in vulnerable settings—face emotional stress, trauma, and social pressures that hinder concentration, confidence and overall learning. Mental health support is often inaccessible or stigmatised.
Our Focus
Wema integrates psychosocial wellbeing into all learning programmes by offering:
Safe and supportive learning environments
Confidence-building and self-expression activities
Trauma-sensitive facilitation and emotional check-ins
Peer support groups that strengthen resilience
These interventions help learners regain confidence, process experiences, build emotional stability and engage more meaningfully in education and work.
